The aliens, the ’80s girl, Weird Barbie, the hula girl, the ice skater, Scary Spice, Elsa… and every version of YOU in between.

Because some of us don’t just have a wardrobe. We have an entire CAST of characters living in our closets.

And just when you think you’ve got them all organized… CHRISTMAS IS NEXT.

I was sitting in my weekly Marketing Meeting when my friend Taylor of Robbins Heating & AC burst into tears sharing the devastation her community in Farmington is facing after the devastating floods in New Mexico.

From her neighbors two doors down that lost everything, to sharing photos of her friend and fireman who spent his day in service only to come home to a foot of standing water in his home.

Our Marketing Team and Colorado Closets Plus saw the need and the mission to help our neighbors.

Believe it or not many of your favorite Nurses, Handy Folk, House Cleaners, Baristas, Grocery Store employees drive an hour a day to work and serve a community they don’t live in.

It’s our turn to serve them.

We are a trusted local drop off for items in need from Gas Cards, to Cash Cards to the items below.

Food Items; individually wrapped snacks and easy to cook/serve items (ex. pb&j, cup of soup, fruit cups, bars, ramen etc.)

Hygiene Items; shampoo/conditioner, lotion, soap, deodorant, foot powder, feminine hygiene products, men’s items

Pet Items; underwear and socks for men, women, and children (new only)

Diapers & baby wipes

Donations are able to be dropped off at Colorado Closets Plus, 190 Turner Drive Durango, CO 81301

I have clothes for a life I don’t live, events I haven’t been invited to, and a personality that changes depending on the shoes.

And somehow, I STILL have nothing to wear.

At least my closet understands me. 😂

Marriage is about compromise.

Except when it comes to closet space. Then it’s about survival.

His shoes on your side. Your clothes on his side. The ONE drawer he claims is his, but somehow contains your bathing suits.

And don’t even get me started on the chair covered in clothes that aren’t dirty enough to wash but aren’t clean enough to put away.

I’ve been married long enough to know that love is patient. Love is kind. And love needs separate drawers.

I’m not a marriage counselor. I’m a closet designer.

But I have saved a few arguments with a tape measure.

Tag your spouse and tell me who’s taking up more closet space. I already have my suspicions.

I design closets for a living. Beautiful ones. Functional ones. Closets that make people feel like they have their s**t together.

And yet, in my own bedroom, there’s a chair holding approximately 17 articles of clothing that are neither clean nor dirty.

They’re in PURGATORY.

Too clean for the laundry. Too dirty for the closet. Too important to put away because I might wear them again tomorrow.

And apparently, that chair is now a permanent member of our family.

Here’s the thing. I don’t believe you need to be perfectly organized to deserve a beautiful closet.

I believe your closet should work for the person you actually ARE.

Even if that person has a clothing graveyard.

Now tell me. Is yours a CHAIR, a TREADMILL, or the FLOOR?

I need to know who I’m designing for.

I love my husband. I really do.

We own a business together. We work together. We build beautiful custom closets together.

But that does NOT mean I want his stuff in my space.

After years of marriage, I’ve learned that a successful relationship requires communication, compromise, mutual respect, and clearly defined hanging space.

He needs room for his clothes.

I need room for my clothes, my other clothes, my clothes that might fit again, and the outfits for the person I might become next Tuesday.

It’s called planning ahead, Aaron.

And as a closet designer, I consider that a perfectly reasonable storage requirement.

Tag your spouse if separate closet space might be the secret to a happy marriage.

I’m not here to tell you that you have too much stuff.

I’m here to tell you that you might not have enough places to PUT your stuff.

There’s a difference.

You don’t need to throw away 47 pairs of shoes, donate half your wardrobe, or become some minimalist who owns three beige sweaters and calls it freedom.

You need storage designed for the way YOU actually live.

Do you fold? Hang? Throw? Own 37 pairs of jeans because they’re all DIFFERENT? Perfect. I can work with that.

I’m a closet designer. Not the clothing police.

And if anyone tells you to get rid of the shoes, send them to me. We’ll build another shelf.

I have 99 problems, and 97 of them could be solved with better storage.

Some women collect handbags. Some collect shoes. I collect pictures of closets, pantries, garages, and random spaces in people’s homes that I KNOW I could make better.

It’s an occupational hazard. 😂
