Down at Equip Expo in Louisville this week to touch base with some OEMs that provide permaculture related equipment and learn about their new offerings.

I’m also taking some time to become more familiar with the various hardscaping materials and manufacturers to help create beautiful designs in the upcoming season.

Kicking off Phase 3 of our project down in Cambridge by buttoning the house up a bit better before winter sets in to help rodent proof it after the Orkin man documented several access points earlier this season. We’re using a variety of tools to achieve this; copper mesh, OSI Quad Max, galvanized mesh, rodent repelling foam, aluminum flashing, and some detour rodent repellent to ensure they are deterred.

Takin my last spin of the season down at Twin Ports Roots Market this afternoon from 3-6! It’s been such a wonderful, rewarding experience helping to sponsor them this year and meeting all the truly fantastic folks that have came by to say hi.
Pop on over today and let’s chat about natural building, LumberStash and the Twin Ports Time Bank.

I’m also bringing bubbles if the rain holds off!

See you soon!

Back in Cambridge to crank out a couple smaller beds with Green Velvet Boxwoods and some Woodland Phlox along with some really nice WI river rock.
I sheet mulched using some fantastically thick bicycle boxes from my friends at Twin Ports Cyclery, incorporated 97% recycled edging, and the plants were sourced from the lovely folks at Prairie Restorations and via special order to a local greenhouse. It really helped to add some curb appeal to the front entrance of my clients home.

Kicked off a new project installing a fieldstone patio for a cedar hot tub north of Duluth. We dry stacked a retaining wall from on-site rocks, added 5 tons of class 5 to create a pad, a bed of washed sand and then placed 2.5 tons of beautiful fieldstone steppers before locking it all together with polymeric sand.
It’ll be a magical space once it all grows in and the homeowner gets the wood fired hot tub set up.

I'll forever be grateful for Judy taking a risk on Uppfinna when I was first starting out. I've enjoyed hearing about how restoring the seasonal creek has helped the drainage of the back yard and lessened the amount her sump pump needs to work as compared to before. Its been fun watching the new growth taking hold this season and helping the native plants achieve a foothold so they can really shine in the space come next season.

Down at the Twin Ports Roots Market this afternoon talking permaculture and natural building, Twin Ports Time Bank, LumberStash and also showing off my new citywide generative music synthesizer based on publicly available infrastructure information and modulated by environmental sensor data. Im calling it the Pulse of the Ports and it’s been a lot of fun to assemble the various datasets into something that folks can use to learn more about the wonderful city we all call home.

MN was the first state in the US to approve straw bale within the building code as of this July.
I’ve got a consult this afternoon for a new straw bale house in the summer of ‘27 so I’m brushing up on my technical info and code regs.

R-50 and earthen plaster walls? Yes please.
