Our firm provides architecture, interior design, graphic design, product design and brand management services. Since its inception in 2009, PTD has designed spaces for museums, hotels, restaurants, offices, retail establishments and residences for our clients. Our work ranges from creating custom furniture, lighting and branding, to large-scale hospitality projects. Thompson brings over 10 years of experience and a team of designers, architects, craftspeople and fabricators that bring authenticity, creativity, collaboration, innovation to each project. Our spaces are unique to the client, meet their needs and reflect our love of design. We have won five Detroit Design awards and have been featured in Dwell magazine, Metropolis magazine and Hour Detroit.

Classic in its foundation. Intentional in its balance. Playful in its details.

For this historic Grosse Pointe Farms home, the design approach centers on creating a sense of continuity between its architectural character and the family’s distinct modern sensibility. Classic forms provide structure, considered materials bring warmth, and moments of play add personality throughout.

A thoughtful balance of restraint and character, designed to feel collected, personal, and enduring.

How do you bring a mid-century landmark into the present without losing what made it distinctive?

At The Plaza Detroit, the design interprets the building’s original architectural language through a contemporary, residential lens. Strong geometry and mid-century proportions are softened with warm woods, tactile textiles, period-inspired details, and contemporary comforts.

The result is a guest experience rooted in the character of its past, without recreating it.

Stay tuned for more updates to come on this hotel renovation.
