If your garage door has long springs stretched along the ceiling beside the tracks, somebody may eventually suggest converting it to a torsion spring over the door.
It is a legitimate upgrade. Torsion systems usually run smoother, and a broken torsion spring stays on its shaft instead of letting go along the track. But extension springs with safety cables threaded through them are a sound setup, and they have balanced garage doors for decades.
The sensible time to convert a Mesquite door is when its springs are worn out anyway. Converting one that balances fine is paying to solve a problem it does not have.
Are yours the long stretched kind, or one coil over the door?
