Great materials deserve great craftsmanship.

A beautiful stone selection is only part of the equation. The artistry of the installation matters just as much.

Before the backsplash goes up, the seams in the countertop are filled with a color-matched adhesive, mixed by hand. Here, that means carefully blending whites, grays, and just a touch of blue until the seam practically disappears into the stone.

Because we're carrying the same material from countertop to backsplash, every transition matters. The goal is for the stone to read as one continuous, beautifully considered surface.

It's a small step that makes an enormous difference.

The best details are often the ones you never notice.

A pantry should be as good to open as it is to look at.

I plan the pantry before I choose the cabinetry, because where things live decides how the whole kitchen works. This one has interior lighting, so you can see everything the moment the door opens. The roll-outs bring the back of every shelf forward, so nothing disappears.

It's a pantry that's easy to like and easy to use.

Function should disappear into the design.

Metal doesn't have to stay the color it arrives in.

One of my favorite things about custom design is knowing what can be done, even when it's not something you'd ever find in a catalog.

This is a finishing process we call Colors and Chemicals. Through layers of chemical treatments, the metal takes on a depth, character, and color that we can tailor to the design.

It's one of those details most people wouldn't think to ask for, but it can make all the difference in how a piece feels in a room.

A big thank you to Mantis Metal Craft for bringing the artistery and knowlege to bring this vision to life. There's nothing better than collaborating with craftspeople who care as much about the details as we do.

Because custom design isn't just about what we build. It's about how we finish it.

A collection doesn't need a theme. It needs a place to be seen.

When I first saw the homeowner's bourbon collection, I saw an opportunity to make something personal part of the architecture of the room.

I designed floor-to-ceiling built-ins for the 12-foot ceilings, incorporating seeded glass doors and integrated lighting to make the collection feel more like art than storage. A w**e refrigerator and thoughtfully planned cabinetry make the space as functional as it is beautiful.

Then came the layers. Four custom armchairs, each with three distinct upholstery details, a burl wood cocktail table, and all the little decisions that make a room feel collected rather than decorated.

The result isn't a bourbon room. It's a sophisticated sitting room that reflects the people who live there.

Personal doesn't have to mean themed.

Turns out this job involves a lot more than pretty things.

There’s the wallpaper installer with a question about a seam. The stone fabricator who needs a decision today, not next week. The electrician, the contractor, the client—and somewhere in the middle of it all, me, still trying to make an actual design decision.

People see the reveal. They don’t see the hundred conversations, decisions, adjustments, and tiny details it takes to get there.

And that’s the job. Making sure all those moving parts add up to something beautiful.

Clutter isn’t a personality flaw. It’s a planning gap.

It’s one of the first things we map out in a kitchen, long before finishes are chosen. Where does the paper towel roll live? Where does the coffee maker sit? Where do the trash cans go so no one ever has to see them?

Here, that meant a pull-out paper towel holder built into the island, a pocket-door pantry for beverage supplies, tilt-out bins for trash and recycling, a charging station tucked behind cabinetry, and a fully organized pantry within arm’s reach of the range.

None of it required more space. It required deciding where things belonged before the cabinets were built.

That’s the difference between a kitchen that looks clean for photos and one designed to stay that way when real life moves in.

Which one of these would make the biggest difference in your kitchen?

Here is my job, described like a crime.

I break into houses I do not own and rearrange everything in them. Then I send an invoice.

I have talked a grown adult out of a white kitchen using nothing but eye contact.

I go through other people’s pantries, drawers, and closets. Professionally.

I routinely convince people to hand me large sums of money for furniture they have never sat on.

Somehow, this is a legitimate business.

This is what story-led design actually means.

A project like this one starts with a conversation, not a mood board.

For this kitchen, we’re working with Steelton Glass on a custom mosaic that will let in just the right amount of light—and hold something far more personal: a New York skyline worked into the glass.

It isn’t decoration for decoration’s sake. It’s a detail that belongs to this couple, this house, and the story they’re building here.

It’s the kind of thing I want someone to notice and then ask about.

Because a home should hold the things that matter to the people living in it. Sometimes, even in the glass.

Grateful to be creating this one with Steelton Glass, another local partner who understands that the best details mean something.

Yes, we wallpapered the outlets.

Because after choosing this floral for the basement bath, the last thing we wanted was a bright white plastic rectangle floating in the middle of it.

The rest of the room follows the same idea: brass wheel-handle fixtures, black granite, and a pattern with enough personality to make a very small room feel entirely intentional.

Is wallpapering an outlet cover a tiny detail? Absolutely.

Do I notice the tiny details? Absolutely.

And basement bathrooms deserve some personality, too.

I was not ready for this one.

A client sat down, looked me dead in the eye, and said they wanted animals on the carpet.

Not a pattern that suggests animals. Actual animals.

I took a beat. I asked a few clarifying questions I did not expect to be asking that day.

There are requests I’ll talk a client out of. And then there are requests that sound completely wild until you understand the story behind them.

This one? In context, it made perfect sense.

And honestly, those are some of my favorite design moments—the ones I never would have arrived at on my own.

What’s the most unexpected thing a client has ever asked you for?
