The mornings are getting chillier, and walking your pup may bring more dread as we approach the colder months. This is your sign that there is no better time to invest in a fence😃

Check out this paddock in Columbia built by Wilson and his team. Toast the doodle certainly approves! 🐾

Emmie the dog has some unique challenges. She is not only blind, but also deaf.

Emmie has some VERY loving parents who had us build a fence just for her! Check out Emmie investigating her new yard 🥰

A look back at some of the fences we built in September🍁🍂!

From building a fence for a long-time vendor to updating a fence my dad built 26 years ago, we did it all (and then some!)

Thank you to our customers in Clarksville, Columbia, and Sykesville, for your continued trust and patience during one of our busiest seasons. And of course, thank you to our amazing crews😍

Check out this new split rail built by Wilson’s team!

Tucked away in Columbia is this home that feels almost other-worldly. This family needed a fence for their pup (and their cats!). We were, of course, happy to make it happen for them this weekend 😃

New fence, WHO DIS!

Another FBD family we’ve been working with since late spring FINALLY got their fence this weekend. And I know a pup who is very happy 🥰

Thanks to John and Tim for another beautiful fence in Columbia!

Many (if not all) of us are reflecting about our 9/11 experiences on the 25th anniversary.

When I think of 9/11, I think of my dad. I was in third grade, just 8 years old. I just sat down in my seat and saw him appear in the doorway. I was perplexed.

My dad rarely picked me up from school. He worked two jobs (building fences and working in government contracts). If he were to pick me up from school, surely my mom would’ve told me. Yet there he was, the first parent there.

From there I remember that we pulled over at the gas station across from the fire department on Montgomery Road in Ellicott City.

Many of you know my dad as a self-proclaimed “dinosaur” when it came to technology, but he actually had phones in our cars (before it was standardized).

I remember a man asking if he could use the phone to let his wife know he was safe. Of course my dad obliged.

As I sipped coffee from one of my dad’s old coffee mugs this morning, I couldn’t help but think of him 25 years ago. Just like he was a self-proclaimed dinosaur, he was my self-proclaimed safety net and protector. And sometimes, like today, it’s strange to think he’s not here.

Yet, somehow, he’s everywhere. 🫶🏻🕊️✨

A back to school throwback as you and your families send your kids and loved ones back to school this fall! 🍎🚌✏️

I often think of my dad in the “harder” moments of running this business. (There’s a reason I put “What would Doug do?” on a t-shirt after all 🤣 )

How would he approach this conversation with a customer?

What funny (likely slightly sarcastic) comment would he make in an otherwise contentious moment?

What classic Doug-ism would he interweave?

I wish he was still here so I could get in his brain, or engage in banter no one else would understand but him. He told all of us —me, my mom, his crews, and his family— “you don’t want to wake up and be Doug.”

We ALL laugh about it. But sometimes, it’s true!

There are so many benefits to running FBD, and being a small, family business with such hands-on owner involvement. But those same rewarding benefits can also make you question your sanity in the harder moments that inevitably arise.

At every decision I make, and every conversation I approach, I hope you know I always think of my dad🫶🏻

What WOULD Doug do?

Stopped by a recently completed fence project in River Hill this weekend and noticed this fluffy boy enjoying his new backyard!

Of course I had to take a few minutes to play with Jasper, the sweetest most energetic boy, in his new FBD paddock fence 🥰🐾
