Failure is feedback. 🌱

I used to panic every time a crop failed. Now I plan for it.

This year, bindw**d took over my field. Most of my beds couldn’t grow even one crop, and it was costing me over $20,000 in lost production. It was choking my tomatoes too. It could have been the thing that broke me this season.

Instead, it was the nudge I needed. I switched my worst-hit tunnels to no-dig, with cardboard and deep compost on top, and the results have been off the charts. My yields blew past anything I’d ever gotten in my native soil, the bindw**d is finally manageable, and I’ve already learned how to do it even better next year.

Here’s what failure taught me: 100% crop success is a goal, not a guarantee. So when something fails, it isn’t a sign you’re doing it wrong. It’s information. It’s showing you what to adjust, and often it’s pointing you toward a better way to farm in your own soil, climate, and market.

That’s why I stopped asking “why is this happening to me?” and started asking “what is this showing me?”

It was never happening to me. It was happening for me. 🙌

If you want to start a farm but don’t want to spend years and money learning everything the hard way, apply for Backyard Farming 101 at the link in my bio. I’d be honored to help you plan for the failures, so you can grow past them faster. 🚜

There are an estimated 30+ million acres of lawn in the United States. Imagine if even a fraction of that was growing food for our communities.

This spring I transitioned 2 of my 16' x 100' caterpillar tunnels to no-dig. Total investment: $3,800. Revenue so far: over $15,000, and the year isn’t even over. We’re still selling from these two tunnels.

The bottom line is that no-dig is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, ways to turn your land into growing space for high-profit vegetables. It dramatically reduces w**d pressure and increases soil fertility almost overnight. Those are the two biggest roadblocks that get beginners into trouble when they start a farm or garden.

If you’re serious about starting a profitable backyard farm, I have a complete seed-to-sale mentoring program called Backyard Farming 101. If you’d like to work with me directly, apply at the link in my bio.
