Fall cleanup question: cut back or leave it? Here's our rule of thumb. Cut back anything diseased or mushy. Leave coneflower and ornamental grass seed heads for the birds, and save spring-blooming shrubs like lilac and forsythia for after they bloom next year. Not sure about a plant? Bring a photo in, and we'll help!
