A grab bar is only as strong as what’s behind the wall. 💪

The ADA benchmark calls for grab bars that can handle 250 pounds of force. Drywall anchors aren’t built for that. Solid blocking behind the wall is.

Then get the placement right:
✔️ Grab bars 33 to 36 inches off the floor
✔️ Shower seat 17 to 19 inches high
✔️ A hand shower you can reach while seated
✔️ Bars placed where the person using them actually reaches

Blocking is easiest and least expensive to add while the shower is being built. Planning a new shower? Plan for it now.
