Deep blue and green tile at the bar. Magenta and orange in the powder room.

In this Craftsman home in Iowa City, the color goes all in, and the warm wood doors hold their own right next to it. The homeowners love bold color, and this house turned out to be a good match for it.

A mudroom can take a lot of wear and still look good.

Here, the built-ins keep the storage tucked away, while the open bench gives the room a place to sit and drop a few things.

And then there’s the floor. That herringbone brick does a lot for a room that’s otherwise mostly white.

Children, grandchildren, friends. This family gathers all year, so the kitchen and bar had to be ready for a crowd.

We planned the home around that. Soft whites and creams keep it light, walnut warms it up, and custom arches give it a gentle Mediterranean feel. The bold color lives in the bathrooms and powder room.
One of the more involved details was the arched cabinetry. BoWood Company worked with us to get the proportions right and figure out how those doors needed to be built.
We also worked closely with skilled craftspeople on the ironwork and lighting, right down to the walnut inside the drawers.

There’s a point in life when the house can start working a little differently.

For these empty nesters, the den, library, and bar became the rooms that were simply for them. Places to read, have a drink, watch something, or settle in at the end of the day.

At our Cedar Rapids interior design studio, we understand that changes in one's stage of life can be a really good time to reconsider how a home is used. Not everything has to revolve around kids, schedules, or accommodating a full house anymore.

Sometimes the most meaningful changes are the ones that make everyday life feel more like your own.

The sunroom gets the stronger pattern in this Manchester, Iowa home. The adjoining living area stays much quieter, so the floral upholstery has room to do its thing.

The blue-gray tones keep the two spaces related without making them match.

A large-scale mural brings a little drama to this Iowa City Craftsman, in the best way.

It changes the feel of the room right away, without needing much else around it.

The original Craftsman woodwork gives the mural something strong to play against, while the soft grays, smoky blues and warm ochre tones keep the whole room feeling relaxed and balanced.

At our Cedar Rapids interior design studio, we love moments like this where the art and architecture feel like they belong together.

The room kids remember forever, and the one everyone calls dibs on at Christmas.

This garret bunk nook turns an under-the-roof space into something special. Custom built-in bunks, a cozy seating nook, soft upholstery, and paneled walls make every inch feel intentional.

Our Cedar Rapids interior design studio loves finding opportunities like this. The quirks of a home often lead to its most memorable rooms.

This Iowa City Craftsman kept its Prairie-style woodwork, then went colorful everywhere else.

A mural in the sitting room, jewel tones in the bedroom, red floral in the powder room.

The clients had a prized Steinway grand, so we planned the great room around it.

That meant choosing furnishings at the right scale and arranging the seating so the room still felt comfortable for conversation and gathering.

At our Cedar Rapids interior design studio, we look closely at the pieces clients already own and love. They often tell us a lot about how a room needs to function.

In this case, the piano helped shape the entire space and gave the room a sense of personality from the start.
