🎃👻 FUN FACT FRIDAY — Halloween Edition! 👻🎃

Did you know that candy corn was originally called “Chicken Feed”? 🐔😂

Yep! When it was introduced in the 1880s, candy corn was marketed with a rooster on the packaging and the slogan “Something worth crowing for!”

Considering how many people either LOVE or HATE candy corn, I’m thinking that rooster might have been overselling it a little! 🤣

So, with Halloween tomorrow, it’s time to settle the great debate…

🍬 Candy corn — delicious Halloween tradition or something that belongs in the chicken coop? 🐔😂

🍁 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🍁

Did you know that scarecrows have been around for over 3,000 years?

Ancient Egyptian farmers used wooden frames covered with nets to protect their wheat fields from hungry birds. In ancient Greece, farmers placed wooden figures in their vineyards to scare away unwanted visitors.

Fast-forward a few thousand years, and now we’re putting scarecrows on our porches, dressing them in cute little outfits, and surrounding them with pumpkins and sunflowers! 🌻🎃

Somewhere along the way, we went from scaring birds to making our front porches adorable. 😂

My daughter thinks the big-eyed scarecrows are creepy! 👀

What about you? Do you decorate with scarecrows, use them in your garden, or do they just plain creep you out?

Well, this is one announcement I really didn’t want to make. 😔

It makes me sick to have to say it, but I’ve made the difficult decision to cancel my participation in the Westerville Central Holiday Market this weekend.

If you’ve noticed I’ve been a little quieter than usual lately, it’s because I’ve been dealing with another round of health issues. I’m on the mend, but getting back to feeling like myself is taking a little longer than I’d hoped.

As much as I love doing craft shows and seeing everyone, setting up my booth takes a lot of physical strength and stamina. Right now, I just don’t have quite enough of either, and I’ve decided to put my health first (if you know me personally, you know this is not something I’m good at. 😂).

But don’t worry, Rustic Petal Creations isn’t going anywhere! 🌻

While I work on getting my strength and energy back, I’ll be focusing on keeping my booth at Amazing Grace Gifts and More in Sunbury stocked with beautiful creations, along with adding more goodies to my Etsy shop!

You’ll still be able to shop Rustic Petal Creations at both locations, and I’ll be sharing new designs and creations along the way.

And I’m still accepting custom orders! Have an idea for something special? I’d love to help bring it to life! 😁

Thank you all for your continued support, encouragement, and understanding. It means more than you know! ❤️

I’ll be back at the craft shows as soon as I’m ready, and I can’t wait to see you all again! 🌻💛

Sometimes the display pieces are just as popular as the things I’m selling! 😂

Did you recently purchase this cute little aqua-colored wooden pumpkin from my Rustic Petal Creations booth at Amazing Grace Gifts and More in Sunbury?

I heard you also had your eye on the little wooden stand it was displayed on.

Well, if that was you, I have good news! You can have the stand for just $5! 😁

Just stop back in and let them know you’re the one who purchased the aqua pumpkin!

And speaking of my booth, you all have been doing a pretty good job of emptying those shelves lately! 🥰

But don’t worry, I’ve got some new goodies coming soon!

Keep an eye out because Rustic Petal Creations is getting ready for a little refresh! 🌻

🍁 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🍁

Did you know that scarecrows have been around for over 3,000 years? 😲

Ancient Egyptian farmers used wooden frames covered with nets to protect their wheat fields from hungry birds. And in ancient Greece, farmers placed wooden figures in their vineyards to scare away unwanted visitors.

Fast-forward a few thousand years, and now we’re putting scarecrows on our porches, dressing them in cute little outfits, and surrounding them with pumpkins and sunflowers! 🌻🎃

Somewhere along the way, we went from scaring birds to making our front porches adorable.

Of course, not everyone thinks scarecrows are adorable! My daughter thinks the big-eyed scarecrows on one of my fall signs are downright creepy! 😂

So tell me, do you decorate with scarecrows, use them in your garden, or do they just plain creep you out? 🤣

🎃👻 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 👻🎃

Halloween wasn’t always about candy, costumes, and pumpkins! Some of our favorite spooky traditions have surprisingly old beginnings!

🍂 1. Halloween has ancient roots!
The Celtic festival of Samhain marked the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. People believed the boundary between the living and spirit worlds grew thinner at this time of year.

🎭 2. Costumes weren’t originally just for fun!
Centuries ago, people wore disguises during seasonal celebrations, sometimes to protect themselves from wandering spirits. A little different from today’s princesses and superheroes!

🍬 3. Trick-or-treating has a long history!
Traditions such as souling and guising involved going door-to-door, sometimes offering prayers, songs, or performances in exchange for food or treats.

🎃 4. The original jack-o’-lanterns weren’t pumpkins!
In Ireland and Scotland, people carved spooky faces into TURNIPS! When the tradition traveled to America, pumpkins became the popular choice because they were plentiful and much easier to carve.

Can you imagine decorating your front porch with a bunch of creepy little turnips?!😂

Which Halloween tradition surprised you the most?

👻🎃 Well, it’s officially October, and the ghosts have moved into the barn!

Went out tonight and discovered three sets of glowing eyes staring back at me from the darkness. The barn is haunted!

Ok, technically, it’s just my headlamp reflecting off the cats’ eyes… but where’s the fun in that?! 😂🐈‍⬛

Good thing I don’t spook easily, because feeding animals after dark around here could turn into a Halloween horror movie real quick!

Happy Spooky Season from our haunted barn! 🎃👻🐾

🍂 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🍂

Did you know decorating for fall can actually make your home feel cozier before you’ve changed the temperature at all?

Warm colors, natural textures, pumpkins, leaves and soft lighting all help create that cozy fall feeling. 🍁

And the best part? Fall décor doesn’t have to be orange! Turquoise, sage, cream, burgundy, navy and even pink can all be gorgeous mixed with traditional fall colors.

So if your pumpkins don’t match everyone else’s pumpkins… I fully support you. 😂🎃

What’s YOUR favorite color to decorate with for fall? Mine is turquoise, and blue, and sage, and…😂

Apparently the goats had a very productive day while we were gone. 😂

This morning I noticed one of the panels to their pen was a little loose, but not enough to worry about, especially since it’s inside the pasture and they can’t get out.

Mistake.

At some point, the goats rubbed on it enough to open it, one of the horses wandered into the goat pen… and then they somehow managed to rub it from the other side and close it again..

I knew she’d gotten into the goat pen earlier, but figured if she got herself in, she could get herself back out.

Fast forward to feeding time, which was late thanks to the days craziness, and I’m calling her because she’s usually standing at her bucket waiting for me, and I hear her whinnying from the goat pen like:

“Hello Mom, I’m over here. I have a problem.” 😂

As I’m walking out to release the horse and fix the panels I realize that the goats have untied the rope keeping the gate closed. I think I need a camera in the barn.

Not for security.

For goat shenanigans. 😂
