Many of you know and love Deborah from Seasons, the plant nursery that was a heartbeat of Bed-Stuy for 13 years — a place where neighbors, artists, and families found not just plants, but each other. Last year, our community came together to help keep her doors open. Now Deborah needs us again, in a different way.
In January, Deborah suffered a stroke and spent months in a rehabilitation facility. Meanwhile, the new owners of the space have given her a deadline to clear everything out of the store — and given what she’s been through, she can’t do it alone.
Your contribution will go toward hiring help to sort through everything, manage the sale of the remaining stock, and get the space cleared out in time, so Deborah doesn’t have to carry that weight by herself while she continues healing.
We’re also organizing a community day at Seasons before the deadline, to help finish clearing out the stock and give the space — and Deborah — the send-off it deserves. It will be a chance for everyone whose life Seasons touched to come together one more time, take home a piece of the place that gave so much to this neighborhood, and say a proper farewell [DATE TBD].
If you know Deborah, you know she’s spent years taking care of everyone else — remembering your name, your family, how you were doing, always ready with a kind word or the right plant for whatever you were going through. Now it’s our turn to take care of her.
Seasons may be gone, but the love this community has for Deborah isn’t going anywhere. Thank you for standing with her now, the way she’s stood with all of us for so many years.
