Big Question I always get:
WHATS THE LEGAL TINT ON MY VEHICLE!?
Ok, well this is it folks.
We all love our Vehicles here at P.C. Customs And most all of us can agree they look so much better with tint.When a new vehicle hits the market the first thing we see are the commercials advertising them,pay attention because when we see them on TV 99.9% of the time they are advertised on the exterior with,yup you nailed it ...they have window tint.
And not just on the rear the full vehicle.This just enhances the look and appeal,, of not some but all vehicles.
And our privacy along with heat reduction and saving our interiors from crazy UV rays...
I'm not saying I'll be able to change the law but would be great to have it revisited.
We have to have headlights on while windshield wipers are in operation, seatbelts while operation of vehicle, directionals while turning...list goes on.
We inspect those and are also looked at for mandated inspections.....ABOUT THE TINT THOUGH..
I believe you should only be written if not followed by traffic laws...which means when you get pulled over roll all windows down...I mean come on...we don't ban hammers even though we all would like to use them in other aspects other than a nail..lol
Review the tint law follow a simple.
Rule DON'T BE A CLOWN ROLL YOUR WINODWS DOWN...
I'm just gonna share this...Maybe some will understand some won't..

Whats legal for tint??
Unfortunately there is nothing on the sides of standard cars as far as NYS tint laws are concerned other than 70% VLT.
So you can Black out a rear windshield,as long as you have both Sideview mirror's,the rest of the vehicle must remain as stated above,at the 70%....
Now this is where I take the time to explain all the tint laws before applying film.
As they are and can be very misleading and or confusing.
If you have a Truck,SUV,Station wagon the tint law changes.
You may have the rear of any of those stated above tinted to 20 and or 15%...
The fronts However need to stay at 70%..
Now you can aquire an optometrist exemption.
That needs the appropriate paperwork to be signed by the optometrist and submitted to DMV..You then will receive a sticker to be applied on the designated window of the vehicle.
(Usually the windshield above registration).
After this whole crazy long message I will also supply the link to NYS DMV tint law.
And when you become crazy confused refer back to everything I just posted.
Ok so now that you are aware of the law as far as tint goes,let me tell you how you can avert getting pulled over and how to avoid a ticket...
First if they want to pull you over for tint,well they absolutely can and why you ask...well because it's illegal lol
How to get out of a ticket,it's a real simple first an foremost 99% of the time they aren't pulling you over for just tint...with that being said,as soon you do get pulled over roll every window down in your vehicle!!!
Very important, why you ask?
Because the tint is illegal for 1,for 2 it shows you care and are concerned of the officers well being and have nothing to hide.
Example of why it is sooo important to have your windows down...ok well it's threats awaiting the officer and or officers walking up to your vehicle to establish communication and allowing them to do so with peace of mind.Seeing everyone and everything in the vehicle is so very important to their safety and your own.
This gesture of not just kindness on your part but commonsense can and I promise will get you very far in a traffic stop!
If not letting you go almost immediately as they certainly have other places or things they would like to do as well....I'm sure ,as a matter a fact I'm positive getting home safely to their family is first and foremost on their list.
Now there are many reasons why I share this information.
As many of you all know I have several friends,some even family who are in law enforcement.
Listen when you break the law and yes unfortunately tint is a law you can and may possibly get pulled over.
Just understand these officers are doing their job.
Maybe you will even establish a decent friendship with a few.
Remember when getting pulled over I promise you or I may have a light out,a tire going soft,sparks flying from a loose exhaust..
Either way that officer becomes familiarized with that vehicle and the person operating it.
Chances are slim to none you will be pulled over again by the same uniform for a simple tint ticket.
As I said common sense roll down all windows!! If they can't see in thats a safety concern.
Wanna have tint be ready for the traffic stop DON'T BE A CLOWN AND ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN!!
Any traffic stop with tint this should be the requirement VS an inspection!
Unfortunately I can't change the laws some people may find ridiculous.
But in all reality I believe a ticket should certainly be made to those without the common sense to respect the ones out there you call on when the last resort requires it...
Reciprocate the respect...And give these officers peace of mind when you have tint...
If you don't want to be an attraction for continued attention...
DON'T BE A CLOWN ROLL THEM DOWN!
