We had a great day at the Barn today for lots of reasons, but the best part was running into an old friend!

We were vendors with our friend Alan for years at the same shop before he and his family moved away. We rarely get to see them anymore, except when they come back for a visit, so it was such a treat to catch up!

I’ve always enjoyed my conversations with Alan. We can get to talking about antiques and art, and I almost always end up learning something I didn’t know before. He has so much knowledge, but what I appreciate most is how freely he shares it. There’s no showing off or trying to prove how much he knows. He just genuinely loves this stuff and enjoys talking about it with someone who loves it too. I’ve learned a lot from him over the years, and I always leave our conversations with something new tucked away in my mind to watch for the next time we’re out hunting. I sure do miss having those conversations more often.

Anyway, we managed to get more Christmas restocked today, with plenty more coming later this week. Mr. Alan’s friend bought one of our old sleds before I could even get it off the cart to take a picture, and one of our old pie safes sold too!

So it looks like we’ve got our work cut out for us this week getting more furniture ready to bring in. But that’s a good problem to have and we are so grateful!

We have a weekend full of fun family stuff going on, but we did manage to squeeze in a quick restock at the Antique To***co Barn yesterday and get one area of our carport cleared out of Christmas! That’s progress! 😂🎄

We got our big pine cabinet stocked full of Christmas, and it made me so happy to see several pieces sell before the day was over. I really think buying Christmas just makes people happy! 🥰

I buy Christmas year-round, so you can imagine how much we have piled up waiting to be priced and stocked over the next several weeks. And as much as we already have, I was still a little bummed when my Christmas picker texted last week saying he had another big load for me. I actually had to turn it down! 😩 I’ve got to make some headway through what we already have before I bring home another truckload!

So if you’re out and about this weekend and need a little happy fix, stop by the Barn! We’ve got everything from Halloween and Thanksgiving tableware and decor to all kinds of man cave goodies, barware, dried florals, and even vintage marbles.

A little something for everybody, and a whole lot more Christmas coming soon! 🎄

My Share a Friend Friday this week is a little different. It’s about an old friend, a place, and a time in my life that I sure do miss. ❤️

Depending on what shift my daddy was working, most Saturday mornings in the 1970s started with breakfast at Shoney’s Big Boy, and then we were off to Asheville and the Dreamland Drive-In Flea Market.

I never went to see a movie at the drive-in at night, and that’s okay. I don’t feel like I missed out on a thing because those Saturday mornings were so exciting to me as a kid!

The rows and rows of tables, the people haggling over prices, finding change that people had dropped the night before at the drive-in, and the smells coming from the concession stand. Running into all my aunts and uncles who were there buying and selling. It was just a magical place to me as a kid.

I guess it’s no wonder that buying and selling old things ended up being my favorite job I’ve ever had. The history behind things, the nostalgia, the thrill of finding something special, and all the things I’m still learning along the way. I still love every bit of it, and I doubt there will ever come a time when I don’t.

We didn’t take vacations when I was growing up. Saturdays were for Dreamland Flea Market, and Wednesdays were for Pickens Flea Market and a day at Lake Jocassee.

We may not have taken vacations, but looking back, I wouldn’t trade those days for anything. Those were some of the very best days of my childhood, and I sure wish I could go back and spend just one more Saturday morning there. ❤️

I’ve started tackling a big project in the basement, which means I’m finally sorting through boxes that haven’t been unpacked since we moved in three years ago!

Of course, if you know me, you know I can’t go through boxes of old treasures without getting a little sidetracked! 😂

One of my favorite rediscoveries so far has been these six wonderful old posters we found about 10 years ago when we purchased the contents of a local home.

They’re from 1978, and while I don’t personally remember the fair that year, I absolutely love finding pieces of our local history. There’s just something special about things that bring back memories of our little corner of the world.

Now I can’t wait to get these framed and hung! And at this rate, there’s no telling what else I’ll uncover before this basement project is finished! 😂

Happy Share a Friend Friday! ❤️

This week, I’m sharing someone I’ve never even met and only recently discovered!

Last week, while wandering around the Antique To***co Barn, I found myself standing in front of the very first booth we had there before Helene. It stopped me in my tracks and brought back alot of memories.

But what a sweet surprise to see what’s there now! A new vendor has moved in and created the coziest little vintage space, filled with beautiful treasures and lots of gorgeous vintage Christmas mixed in!

If you love vintage Christmas as much as I do, you definitely need to stop by and check them out! There’s just something about those old Christmas treasures that brings back the sweetest memories. 🎄🎅🏻
