Multi-family doesn't have to feel like multi-family.
At DRT, we design apartment and condo buildings throughout the Greater Boston area with one belief at the center: just because you're sharing a building doesn't mean your home should feel shared. A unit on the third floor of a six-unit building should feel as considered, as livable, and as much like yours as a single-family house down the street.
That belief shows up in the details. A real entry — somewhere to hang a coat, drop a bag, take off your shoes — instead of walking straight into the living room. Closets that are actually planned, not whatever space is left over. A laundry room with counter space to fold and a utility sink to handle the stains that come with everyday life. Ceiling heights pushed above the minimum because a few extra inches changes how a room feels to live in. And outdoor space — a balcony, a terrace, a rooftop deck — because when it's finally nice out in Boston, you should get to be outside.
This is the thinking behind every multi-family project we design, whether it's a small infill building in Dorchester or a larger development elsewhere in Greater Boston. Good multi-family design isn't about fitting more units into a footprint. It's about making sure every single one of those units feels like home.
