One thing customers mention again and again in their reviews of ACE Tree Service is how quickly we show up. Same-day or next-day visits aren't a special promotion for us. They're how a locally owned Birmingham company should treat its neighbors.

Keeping response times short takes some behind-the-scenes planning. We leave room in the schedule for urgent calls, keep our equipment ready to roll, and make decisions locally, so nobody waits on approval from a distant office. When a limb is hanging over a roof or a tree is blocking a driveway, a fast first look matters.

Speed never replaces doing it right. Every job still gets an assessment from an ISA Certified Arborist, a clear plan before work starts, and the full cleanup our customers count on when the work is finished.

When you need help around the house, what matters most to you: how fast someone can come out, or how well they explain what they found?

Check the base of your tree. A healthy trunk flares out like a w**e bottle. If it goes straight into the ground or a root circles the trunk, it may indicate a girdling root.

Girdling roots can develop in nurseries or if a tree is planted too deep. As they grow, they can choke off water and nutrients, leading to thinning canopies or dieback.

If caught early, a girdling root can be safely cut out by an ISA Certified Arborist at ACE Tree Service. They can excavate the root collar and recommend solutions.

When you inspect your trees, do you see a natural flare or a straight trunk? 🌳

If you're considering replacing a lost tree or adding shade to your yard, the next few months are ideal for planting in Central Alabama. The warm soil around Birmingham allows new roots to grow without the stress of summer heat.

A tree planted in November or December has winter and spring to establish roots before the hot summer. In contrast, trees planted in May or June must cope with high temperatures, often struggling without constant watering.

ACE Tree Service offers expert tree planting as part of our arborist services. An ISA Certified Arborist can help you choose the right species for your space and plant it properly for long-term success.

If you could add one new tree to your yard, what would you choose and where would it go? 🌳

Garrett and his crew did an excellent job to remove a large oak tree that was very close to our house. You can tell all the team members work together very well as the tree cutting, the removal of the debris, and clean up were completed in 5 hours. Everything went as planned with efficiency! 10 out of 5 star rating!

Fall and winter are busy for home projects in Birmingham, Homewood, and Vestavia, often impacting the area's mature oaks and hickories. Damage to these trees may not be visible for years after construction.

Most feeder roots are in the top foot of soil and extend beyond the drip line. Heavy equipment compacts soil, trenching cuts roots, and adding fill can starve healthy trees. ACE Tree Service begins tree preservation before excavation with an ISA Certified Arborist who maps the critical root zone, sets protective fencing, and plans necessary root pruning.

We can also coordinate with your builder to ensure the plan protects your trees during construction and follow up with soil care or deep root treatment if needed. A little planning now can save costs later on tree removal.

Are you planning a project near large trees? Has anyone discussed protecting their roots? 🌳

When a tree needs treatment for insects or disease, many imagine a truck spraying the canopy. A cleaner alternative is trunk micro-injection, which delivers treatment directly into the tree's vascular system. The tree then distributes it to the canopy itself.

This method prevents drift onto patios, gardens, or play areas, and is unaffected by wind. It's a key aspect of ACE's sustainable pest management in Birmingham.

However, micro-injection isn't always suitable. Timing, tree health, and specific issues determine its effectiveness. That's where an ISA Certified Arborist can help: diagnose first, then choose the right treatment.

Have you ever delayed tree treatment to avoid spray drifting over your yard or garden?

You'll see "ISA Certified Arborist" on everything ACE puts out. It's a professional credential from the International Society of Arboriculture, earned through years of hands-on experience and passing a comprehensive exam on tree care.

Maintaining this certification requires ongoing education to keep up with evolving industry knowledge. This ensures the person assessing your tree in Birmingham, Hoover, or Trussville is diagnosing accurately, not guessing. It influences the entire crew's approach to proper cuts, careful rigging, and valuing each tree as a living entity worth saving.

Before hiring someone for tree work, what's the first question you ask?

One of the most common requests we get is, "Can you cut the top out so it's not so tall?" While it seems safer, topping usually does the opposite—and an ISA Certified Arborist won't recommend it.

Topping cuts large limbs back to stubs, causing weak sprouts to grow and decay to set in. Within a few years, the tree can become just as tall, denser, and more likely to drop limbs in storms.

Better options include crown reduction, thinning for wind passage, or raising the canopy. If a tree is too big for its spot, planned removal and replacement is often the best solution.

Have you seen topped trees in your neighborhood? Did you wonder why they grow back like that?

Most people think of spring as storm season, but Alabama also experiences severe weather from November to December. Central Alabama has seen fall tornadoes and strong storms over the years. The calm weather in October is a great time to prepare.

Check for overhanging limbs, leaning trees, or any that have dropped large branches recently. Saturated winter soil and strong winds can topple trees in Birmingham's red clay.

This is a chance to make a plan while the weather is quiet. An ISA Certified Arborist can advise on what needs immediate attention, what can wait, and what's fine. If a storm hits, ACE is always ready for emergency response.

Where were you during the last big fall storm in Central Alabama? Did your trees come through okay? 🌳💨

Not every split or double trunk means a tree must be removed. In Birmingham, Homewood, and Vestavia, many mature oaks and maples have two trunks from a single point, which can fail in strong storms if left untreated. Removing them means losing decades of shade.

Cabling and bracing is a supportive solution. Our crew installs flexible steel cables between trunks to limit movement in winds. For lower cracks, steel rods may be added for extra support. This method is effective on otherwise healthy trees.

An ISA Certified Arborist can determine if your tree is a good candidate by assessing the union, surrounding wood, root zone, and canopy conditions. Some trees are suitable; some aren’t.

Do you have a tree with two big trunks emerging from one spot? Wondering if it’s sound? 🌳
