Picking out tile for a remodel? Here's what we tell everybody first.
Tile 101: choosing porcelain, natural stone, shower floor tile and grout for your remodel, from our Bellevue, WA tile showroom.
Start with where it's going: a floor, a shower, an entryway or a mudroom.
Porcelain is the strong one: floors, walls, even outside. Natural stone people have loved for thousands of years.
Shower floors want small tiles, so they can follow the slope to the drain. Really big tile needs a perfectly flat floor, so check with your installer first.
Grout that matches gives a calm, clean look. A contrasting grout makes your pattern pop.
And every tile looks a little different, so look at a bunch of pieces, take full-size samples home, and buy it all from the same batch.

Your tile sample looked perfect. Then the boxes show up and they don't match.
How to buy tile without surprises, from our tile showroom in Bellevue, WA.
4 ways to avoid it:
1. Don't go off one piece. Look at a full board or lay a few out together.
2. Ask for one lot. Tile is made in batches and the color can shift a little between them.
3. Order extra for cuts and breakage, and a little more for diagonal, herringbone or big tiles.
4. Plan for the wait. Most tile comes straight from the distributor in about 2 to 5 business days.
Bring your measurements and a few photos and we'll help you get it right the first time. Just walk in, the design help is free. Open 7 days a week at 1405 132nd Ave NE, Suite 1, Bellevue.

People always ask us why we're called Discount Tile Outlet.
Discount Tile Outlet is a family-run tile store in Bellevue, WA.
It goes back to 2010, during the recession. Manufacturers and stores were shutting down, so my dad and his partners bought up their inventory so they could sell it for less. That's where the name comes from.
We don't really buy that way anymore. Now it's long relationships with our vendors, plus the Sale Wall, where premium tile goes for a big discount.
Come say hi. No appointment needed, the design consultation is free, and we're open 7 days a week. 1405 132nd Ave NE, Suite 1, Bellevue.
