[Design Detail] At KAFD Grand Mosque, architecture and engineering are conceived as one continuous system.
The mosque’s sculptural enclosure integrates its structural and mechanical systems within the building envelope, allowing the main prayer hall to remain column-free. Inside, this continuity creates an uninterrupted space where the geometry of the exterior carries through to the faceted interior surfaces.
Light becomes part of that architectural language. Narrow windows integrated between the building’s geometric ridges filter soft natural light into the prayer hall, while suspended ceiling panels provide additional lighting and acoustic performance. Toward the qibla, the geometry converges at the crystalline glass mihrab, creating the focal point of the space.
A contemporary interpretation of mosque architecture, shaped not only through form, but through the close integration of structure, light, and space.
