Grower Direct was opened direct to the public in August 2011. Want to know how we grow something?

Grower Direct is a family run business, with a small highly dedicated team of experts who specialize in propagation, growing systems and pest & disease management. Just ask, no secrets with us, our philosophy is simple, if you are successful with your garden, then we have succeeded. The nursery covers approximately 4 acres of open beds and covered growing areas

We grow over 400 different plants from veg seedlings to a wide range of ornamental plants. Our website is a combination research tool as well as a ‘shop’ it is an annualized production range and we don’t manage the day to day availability of plants, once you place an order we will confirm via email what is available and final costs including freight. Our price structure is genuine wholesale prices, you can expect to pay half if not less than a typical retail garden centre. We don't run ‘specials’ we have an ‘Everyday low Price’ policy, so we can guarantee the best prices everyday.

Hi folks, it might have been cold and windy last night, but things are heating up🌶️🥵 here at Grower Direct! Our last batch of jalapenos are ready for sale and won't last long... Along with some other varieties which are too hot to even write their names. We've got limited stock so come in today if you don't want to miss out.

Hi Folks,

Have you heard of Prunus Lusitanica aka Portugese Laurel? Well if you are not familiar it's easily mistaken for a Bay tree (but it's not edible), and it gets bigger and grows faster making it great for fast screen hedging and privacy from the neighbours. It's also stunning as a feature specimen if you feel like doing a bit of topiary. You've probably see it pollarded in our carpark when you first arrive. They're tough as and can handle frosts and drought and still look fabulous.

Anyways I've decided to do a flash sale on the ones we've got which are standards (bare trunk with ball of foliage at the top). They're down from $120 to just $95, I doubt you'll find them cheaper elsewhere.

So if you're wanting to create a bit of structure or more privacy then come on in and see us at Grower Direct, we're open everyday 8:30-4:30pm.

Hey folks, the first of the summer long weekends is here. If you're heading to the bach then it's the perfect time to clean up the garden ready for Christmas and the rest of the whanau to come visit. We've got a huge range of plants that thrive in hot dry coastal environments including a range of different coprosmas, corokias, lavender, dwarf pohutakawa and gazanias in all sorts of colours are always great to add some summer colour.

Come on in and grab a bargain, we're always better value than mitre10 or Bunnings and open everyday 8:30-4:30pm.

Hi Folks,

Wow it's heating up already which means it's going to be a great summer for lavender, tomatoes and chilli's! Not so good for Maramas oyster mushrooms so this is the last weekend to come and grab some, but we'll have them available again in Autumn.

As some of you know, we've had poor germination of our chillis this year, but good news is that we've done a third batch of them to make sure there's plenty for everyone. Our Jalapenos along with some of the others from the start of season will be available again in two weeks. But tomorrow we will have available the following hot chillis:

Padron, Trinididad Scorpian, Orange Shark, Biquinho Iracema and Bishops Crown.

Get in early as they won't hang around long.

What a stunning day, I know we needed that rain, but I'm happy to see the sun shining again even if it was a bit icy this morning. If you're venturing out today, don't forget to bring your furry friends - they'll go quackers for our resident ducks 🦆! 🐶 On a more serious note, our passionfruit, tamarillos, figs, and melons are ripe and ready to roll! Plus, we've got more oranges, mandarins, and red kumara slips for those who missed out earlier this week. And let's be real, why pay $5+ for a tomato plant when you can get it for way cheaper here? 🤣 So, come on down and grab some goodies to make your garden (and your taste buds) happy! 🌼

Hey there, plant enthusiasts! 🌱 We've got some blooming good news - our roses (bush and standards) are finally ready to find their forever homes! And the best part? We're cheaper than those big-box stores, Bunnings and Mitre10! 😉 Plus, our perennials are putting on a show like it's their job (oh wait, it is 😂) - we've got aquilegias, namesia, gazanias, lavender (compact bandera variety), and gaura. Come on down and get your spring colour fix! 🌈

On the veggie front, we're bean-tastic (heaps of varieties, folks!) and our super-hot chillies are nearly ready for the Labour Day long weekend. Pro tip: come early to avoid parking chaos and BYOB (bring your own basket or box, we keep running out! 📦)

Sunday funday! Hi folks, if you're looking for something to do today make sure you visit the Te Puna Quarry park for their annual spring plant sale, and then come on over to Grower Direct after to grab yourself even more plants or an ice cream from Mr Whippy, that's right, it's going to be another hot humid day so come grab a treat while you look around at all the beautiful flowers and summer veggies on offer. As always our prices are the lowest around so come and grab yourself a bargain.

Hi Folks,

I hope that little cold spell on Wednesday didn't do any damage to your veggies. Hopefully it's the last of the cold for this year as our eggplants are finally ready to go (sorry another week for the gourds and melons).

But exciting times, our red kumara slips have just arrived, they grow well here in the bay of plenty so definitely give them a try. I recommend sowing cosmos seeds in amongst them as they are a companion plant and look stunning over summer. The orange variety will be available in a few more weeks it's a bit slower to grow than the red.

As always we're open everyday 8:30-4:30pm and have the lowest vege prices around.
