🍂🔥 BEFORE HALLOWEEN, THERE WAS SAMHAIN… 🇮🇪
Long before Halloween became a celebration known around the world, its roots were growing in the ancient traditions of Ireland.
Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter — a turning point in the Celtic calendar, when the days grew shorter and darkness settled over the land.
🔥 Bonfires illuminated the night, bringing communities together as they welcomed the changing season.
🎭 Masks and disguises became part of the festivities, while carved turnips with flickering candles were the original Irish jack-o'-lanterns — long before pumpkins took their place.
🌫️ And perhaps the most mysterious tradition of all was the belief that, on Samhain night, the veil between the living world and the Otherworld grew thin, allowing spirits and the ancient fairy folk to wander among us.
It was a time of storytelling, remembrance, mystery and a deep connection to the rhythms of nature.
Many centuries later, these Irish traditions continue to live on in Halloween celebrations across the world.
And here in Ireland, we're proud of the heritage, the land and the traditions that connect us to generations past. 🌿
