🎅 THE RYLAND DESIGN TEAM ARE SWAPPING THE DRAWING BOARD FOR RUNNING SHOES! 🏃🎄

On Sunday 6 December 2026, some of the Ryland Design team will be taking to the streets of Louth for the Louth Santa Run for Life, raising money for Cancer Research UK.

We’re incredibly proud to be sponsoring this year’s event in collaboration with Louth Run for Life, but we wanted to do more than simply support from the sidelines. So, Santa suits at the ready, members of our team will be joining the runners too! 🎅

As a local family-run business, supporting our community and helping raise money for such an important cause means a great deal to us. Events like the Louth Santa Run bring people together for some festive fun while, most importantly, raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

One of our favourite projects to look back on.

The former Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, originally constructed in 1839, was a Grade II Listed building in need of a new future.

Working carefully to preserve the character and historic features of the chapel, the building was sympathetically converted into a stunning 3-bedroom home, blending heritage architecture with modern living.

The project went on to receive industry recognition, being celebrated as an award-winning conversion for its successful balance of historic preservation and contemporary design.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can breathe new life into historic buildings, ensuring they continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.

What was once a place of worship is now a truly unique home, with many of its original features proudly retained and showcased.

Land diversification is about more than finding land to develop. It's about identifying opportunities that work for the landowner.

This agricultural client approached us looking to raise capital from part of their landholding.

Rather than jumping straight into a planning application, we first reviewed asset maps, operational requirements and the wider farm layout to understand which areas were essential to the business and which areas were underutilised.

By identifying land that had little operational value to the farm, we were able to explore a development opportunity that minimised the impact on the client's day-to-day activities while maximising the value of the asset.

The result was a carefully considered outline scheme that unlocked the potential of what was effectively redundant space, creating an opportunity to generate capital without compromising the wider agricultural operation.

At Ryland Design, we work with rural and agricultural clients to identify opportunities, evaluate potential and guide projects through every stage of the planning process.

🏛️ Planning Myth #12

🚫 MYTH: Planning permission guarantees I can start building immediately.
✅ FACT: Receiving planning permission is often just one step in the process.

Additional requirements such as Building Regulations approval, discharge of planning conditions or other consents may still be needed before work can begin.

Every project has different requirements depending on its type and location.

Understanding these requirements early can help avoid unexpected delays.

Most people see an old agricultural building.
We see potential.

Our team has recently been appointed to assess and develop proposals for this existing structure, exploring how it can be repurposed to create new opportunities for the client while making the most of an existing asset.

Before the designs, planning applications and visualisations come the surveys, measurements and feasibility assessments that help us understand what's possible.

Every project starts with a site visit and a conversation.

We're looking forward to sharing the journey as this one progresses.

🚫 MYTH: Good design is only about how a building looks.
✅ FACT: Good design is about much more than appearance.

Functionality, natural light, flow, accessibility, energy performance and how spaces are used all play an important role.

The most successful projects balance aesthetics with practicality and long-term usability.

Good design should work just as well as it looks.
