Children of the Forest, Parts 1 & 2. Our second diptych with artist Stefan Heyer.

Stefan’s gestural abstracts draw on personal and collective histories, pop culture, esoteric philosophy and the quiet drama of the natural world. Across two rugs, sweeping strokes of cream, sand and blush meet raw marks of black, green and vivid turquoise, like memory in motion.

Marks drift from one piece into the next, like footprints and fallen leaves on a forest floor.

Up close with the phenomenal new *Freeze Frames* rug, original artwork by Ian Rayer-Smith

Currently on show at Decorex International | Europe’s Luxury Interior Design Show, this rug design is a beautiful interplay of colour, texture and movement, where expressive brushstrokes are translated into intricate hand-knotted detail. Every nuance of the original artwork is brought to life through the craftsmanship of our artisans in Nepal.

Introducing ‘Freeze Frames’ from our new collection with British abstract painter

Drawn from one of Ian’s original paintings, Freeze Frames captures the spontaneous gestures, layered colour and raw energy of his work, reimagined in wool and silk.

Hand-knotted in Nepal using traditional techniques, the rug brings a new depth and tactility to Ian’s original artwork.

It takes around a year.

A year to develop the colours, around 65–70 in total. To understand how the materials interact, how they blend, where to use wool, where to introduce silk. To experiment, refine and go back and forth between our design team in London and our incredible production team in Nepal.

Every stage is done by hand, from the carding and spinning to the dyeing and knotting.

To do justice to these wonderful artworks, the excitement of a new collection, the extraordinary craftsmanship behind it, and the sheer joy of loving what you do.

Introducing our newest artist collaboration with British abstract painter Ian Rayer-Smith.

Knots Rugs Founder and Creative Director, Bonnie Sutton, has admired Ian’s work for some time, having first discovered his paintings on Instagram. It was a chance encounter with his work in a London gallery that brought everything together. Seeing the extraordinary texture, movement and energy of his paintings in person, Bonnie knew they could translate beautifully into rugs.

Ian’s approach to painting is wonderfully instinctive. Working with layers of colour, expressive gestures and spontaneous marks, his paintings evolve organically, often taking unexpected turns along the way.

Our new collection of four hand-knotted rugs captures that same freedom and energy.

We couldn’t be more excited to share this collaboration with you, and we'll be revealing the first design tomorrow morning.

The full collection makes its debut this weekend at Decorex Stand E37.
