🌳 Some shots from our tree crew this week! We work all over Northern Nova Scotia. This week had us in Truro and Antigonish!

🌳 Aerial Rescue Training!

If an arborist becomes injured or incapacitated while working in a tree, a trained colleague may need to climb up and bring them safely to the ground.

Meet the Urban Roots kitties - Peat and Piper!
Peat and Piper are not blood related, and are polar opposites in personality!

Piper lived here first, and then Peat came along a couple of years later. Although they present opposing personalities, they both enjoy the same activities: sleeping by the patio door, squirrel and bird watching, Fancy Feast, playing with paper bags, and time in the ‘catio’!

Can anyone guess why this spelling of Peat’s name was chosen? Hint, think of landscaping application… we thought it was appropriate 😉

🌳 This Norway Maple had a failing union and included bark between co-dominant stems, creating a structural weakness that required supplemental support.

After assessing the tree’s structure, cabling and bracing were used to provide additional support to the compromised union. Selective end-weight reduction can also help reduce leverage and mechanical stress on vulnerable stems.

Tree support systems are designed to help limit excessive movement and reduce the likelihood of further union failure. While they cannot eliminate the risk of failure, they can be an effective management option for preserving structurally compromised trees when appropriate. With proper installation, ongoing monitoring, and maintenance, supplemental support can help extend the life and enjoyment of valuable mature trees. 🌳
