Ask about insurance. We carry $5 million in liability insurance, so your home is protected if something gets damaged during the work.

Seven bathrooms in one 5,000 sq ft full home renovation, each one taken back and rebuilt.

Primary ensuite: the round jetted tub came out for a freestanding tub and a walk-in shower.

Green bath: square green tile over the tub.

White bath: stacked white tile in a walk-in shower.

Grey bath: large-format grey tile and a wood vanity.

Herringbone bath: herringbone shower tile, a floating vanity and an arched mirror.

Powder room: forest mural wallpaper on the main floor.

1,000 sq ft home addition in the GTA: here's where it stands.

We took out the old deck, dug out for a full basement under the new main floor, poured the footings and an 8-inch foundation wall, then framed it and closed it in with brick and siding. HVAC, electrical and plumbing are roughed in, with a dedicated furnace for the new space. Drywall, skylights, trim and floors are going in now.

The owners host a lot, so the new main floor is one open space with a full opening from the dining room.

A carpeted basement turned into a finished lower level with its own walkout.

Before: wall-to-wall carpet and one big empty room.
After: a rec room with space for a pool table, a kitchen with an island, a full bathroom with herringbone floor tile and a glass shower, and a walkout entrance down new concrete stairs.

The basement is now where the family entertains and spends time together.

The walkout stairs were formed and poured on site.

Legal Basement Apartment | 7 Must-Haves in Ontario

A finished basement and a legal basement apartment are not the same thing.

To rent it out legally, the unit needs a building permit, enough ceiling height, escape windows, fire separation, interconnected smoke alarms, a safe way out and ideally its own entrance.

Low basements often need underpinning or a lowered floor to reach the ceiling height. Plan for that before you budget the rest.

Miss one and it isn't a legal unit, no matter how good it looks.

Grants, Rebates and Tax Credits | GTA Homeowners

Some of your renovation may already be paid for. Here are 6 programs GTA homeowners can use this fall.

Ontario's Home Renovation Savings program covers up to $7,700 for insulation and $100 per window or door with an energy assessment, and up to $7,500 for a cold-climate heat pump.

In Toronto, the HELP loan lends up to $125,000 for energy upgrades, paid back on your tax bill. The City also pays 80% of basement flood protection, up to $6,650.

Federal tax credits help with a unit for a parent or relative, and with accessibility work. Adding a rental suite? An insured refinance can go up to 90% of the finished value.

Amounts as of October 2026. Programs change, so check before you start work.

A home renovation project where we transformed the entryway and staircase.

Before: carpeted treads and a dark wood railing with turned spindles.
After: oak treads, black iron spindles and a curved oak handrail, new wood floors through the entry and a skylight over the upper landing.

The crew took the old railing out and set the new treads and spindles in piece by piece.
