I planted everything in my new greenhouse very late this year, so I had no idea what to expect or whether anything would work out!

So far, the sunflowers were a win (excuse the floppy necks... they’d been through a night of -4!). Amaranth was a win, and I think I'll intentionally plant another late succession in the greenhouse next year! The basil did really well. And I even got a few cosmos to bloom!

I probably could've gone even further with a heater during the cool evenings, but I still have some ranunculus plants and a cabbage living their best life, so I will keep you updated!

I've struggled to grow a meaningful dahlia crop since I first started including them in my garden in 2021. It might not be huge by some growers' standards, but I'm really proud of this year's harvest. I can't wait for even more dahlias in Garden 2027!

Any dahlia growing hacks? Please share in the comments!

Another recent harvest win: garden huckleberries!

I’m sure you could make them into jam or jelly, but they definitely don't taste good straight out of the garden. I mostly use my garden huckleberries for decor because they bring me joy.

They aren’t commonly grown on the prairies, but I think they should be, if for no other reason than to look beautiful in fall pumpkin arrangements!

This week in flowers 43/52 I’m in Ft. St. John, BC giving a talk on the Frost proof flower garden, my new talk on short season crop rotations in a small space, and perennials.

A giant thanks to the Ft. St. John Horticulture Society and the town of Ft. St. John for sponsoring me, all the people and businesses that contributed to my welcome and thank you packages, Julie for hosting lunch, and Christine for taking me everywhere and being such a welcoming host.

I feel like this video doesn’t accurately capture the beautiful people of this community. I was too busy living and experiencing life here to take the best video.
