Leaves can shut your furnace off.
It is an easy detail to miss. High-efficiency furnaces often use white PVC intake and exhaust pipes on the outside of the home. When leaves, snow, mulch, or other debris crowd those openings, airflow can be restricted and the system may shut down for safety.
A quick walk around the house can save a frustrating no-heat call. Clear loose debris from around the pipe ends, but never cover them or push anything inside.
If your furnace keeps shutting off, or you notice unusual venting outside, it is worth having it checked.
Have you looked for your exterior furnace vents before?
