A couple of friends from the 60s...
Here is an Oxford 12T6 from 1965, and a 12" Marsland (made in Waterloo ON) from 1967. Both required a restoration for basically age related degradation - nothing ugly. The 12T6 is what we would expect; a 12" 60s workhorse from a Fender amp of its day. The Marsland has a lot more bling than we would expect. The legend is Garnet amps in Winnipeg used to glue an aluminum dust cap over the stock felt to 'upgrade' the appearance! I can't speak for the sonic logic of this plan, but this one had to go back into a cabinet with its mates, so it had to look right, in addition to sounding right!
Unfortunately the original aluminum dust caps were mirror shiny, 4" in diameter with lip up, and as thin as tin foil. Not salvageable. JBL caps are the right size, but are not lip up, are not polished. After a fair bit of searching, I found the right dust caps at The Lord Of Bass - for pro subwoofers in this case, but just the ticket. They are heavier (not crazy heavy, but not tin foil), but that allowed me to carefully mirror polish them on a buffing wheel. I think it turned out great! Sometimes these non-stock speaker adventures are super fun.
