Dave and Kirsten Hirtle and Postech County Line are the 2026 winners of the Cumberland County Community Support and Service Award that was presented the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce gala dinner on Thursday, Oct. 22.

The award is sponsored by the Municipality of Cumberland.

“Dave and Kirsten Hirtle and Postech County Line are a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit we have here in Cumberland County,” Mayor Rod Gilroy said in presenting the award.

“Building a successful small business takes hard work, determination and a real commitment to your customers. Providing a valuable service to homeowners, contractors and businesses throughout our region is what they are all about.”

🔩 HOW MUCH WEIGHT CAN A POSTECH SCREW PILE FOUNDATION SUPPORT? 🏗️

One of the biggest advantages of a Postech Screw Pile foundation is our ability to estimate its load-bearing capacity based on the torque achieved during installation.

But how does it work?

As a screw pile is installed, the resistance it encounters in the ground creates torque. That torque can be correlated to the pile's compression capacity using established engineering calculations.

Our excavator is equipped with a hydraulic pressure gauge, which is calibrated against installation torque to help us determine the estimated compression capacity of each pile.

Not all ground conditions are created equal!

Several factors influence the torque achieved during installation:

🔹 Soil type and density: Dense, compacted soils generally produce higher torque, while clay conditions can vary significantly.

🔹 Disturbed vs. undisturbed soil: Previously disturbed or loosely compacted soil typically offers less resistance than dense, undisturbed ground.

🔹 Shaft and helix size: Larger shafts and helices generally develop torque more quickly than smaller ones.

🔹 Installation depth: Some conditions allow us to achieve the required torque at 4 feet, while others may require 6 feet or more.
