Plugged in the picture frame that we got at the auction! Popped an old SD card in it and I have no idea of the dates. I know it has to be before April 2017 but that’s all I know. Possibly 2015 or 2016. With looking through these photos, I can say one thing. We sure had big appetites back then! Here are a few screenshots of some Spritz Cookies we made back then. We’ve gotten lazy over the years. We don’t use the cookie press anymore. We just roll them into balls and smashed them down a little bit. Who cares what they look like as long as they taste good!

We did it again! We purchased another auction lot. This lot contained 4 items. A waffle maker, a cooking stone, a Kodak digital frame and a spiralizer for our KitchenAid stand mixer. The total cost for the lot was $40. We have 2 bins on our porch we call our freebie bins. Sometimes we'll advertise a free porch pick up on facebook. Whenever someone comes to pick up an item we tell them to look through the bins and help themselves to whatever they want. We tested the waffle maker last night it works wonderfully unfortunately we're just not waffle people. I cleaned it up really good and put it in the freebie bin along with the cooking stone. The cooking stone doesn't look like it's ever been used and neither do the accessories that came with it. I've installed an old SD card the frame. It's so nice to see all the old pictures that I never look at. As for the Spiralizer that baby peeled and cored those apples in no time flat! So now I can take my countertop apple peeler corer and put that into the freebie bin! I thought I took a video of the spiralizer working but apparently I didn't because I can't find it! I woke up this morning thinking it was Tuesday but lo and behold it is a typical Monday!

I’m donating a lot of my cookbooks to a young lady who is opening a bookstore at a nearby mall. In the back of one of the cookbooks I found a recipe that I received back in the early 1990s. Supposedly it is a recipe from Neiman Marcus for the oatmeal nut chip cookies. I don’t know how true the story is, but I did try the recipe. The first time I made them I left out the nuts. They were OK. They were a little overcooked and very sweet. I tweaked the recipe a little, I decreased the sugar and decreased the baked time. This time I added raisins instead of chocolate chips and of course I had to add cinnamon, lots and lots of cinnamon. I have to say these are delicious! I didn’t compare the recipe to Quaker‘s vanishing oatmeal cookies but they’re pretty darn close. We love Quakers vanishing oatmeal, cookies Soft and chewy! Do you want the recipe? I’ll give it to you for free all you have to do is ask. Here’s a copy of the letter that was attached to the recipe.

Such a versatile recipe! Add a different flavor creamer. Replace the chips with raisins or any dry fruit to your liking! Of course you have to add spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, and whatever else floats your boat! ENJOY!!

Robert Taylor Smith as promised, here is the recipe I use for my scones. I use French vanilla creamer instead of the hazelnut. Rarely do I use chocolate chips I mostly use raisins and those I measure with my heart an overwhelming amount. I add cinnamon and other spices or whatever spices I feel like. I’ve even left out the sugar and the cream of tartar and they still came out fine. It’s a very versatile recipe. The important thing to remember is not to over mix it or the dough/ batter whatever you want to call it will become gummy. They’ll still bake ok but just have a different texture. I bake mine at 375 for 15 to 20 minutes just until the bottoms are lightly golden brown. Oven temperatures vary so just keep an eye on them.

I’ve been a little distracted with the kittens lately. I haven’t done much cooking nor have I really gotten back into crafting or painting. I decided I would start crafting again. Today’s project is a cat toy. Made easily with a small box and the cardboard from tissue rolls cut in halves and thirds. I packed them in the box as tight as I could and dropped a few treats inside. Again as with the wheel, I thought Marshmallow would be the aggressor. It turns out Peanut played with it until she got all the treats out. Marshmallow had to make biscuits and take a nap.

Back from vacation. Sooner than expected but happy to be home. The first week was beautiful, and enjoyable with family and friends. Monday the weather decided it wasn’t going to cooperate, so we came home Tuesday. Plus we missed our little kitty cats. I don’t cook when we’re on vacation but this morning I decided to make some pancakes. I always make too many, so I texted my neighbor and offered a few pancakes to him which he graciously accepted.

Well, things didn’t go as planned! Just as the timer was going off, there was a knock at the door. The kitties had a visitor. I told them to go ahead and play with the kitties. I had to turn off the oven. Guess what? I turned off the timer. I didn’t turn off the oven!! They didn’t burn to a crisp and the smoke detector didn’t go off. I’ll keep these for myself and give the first batch to my hubby. I like things that are fully cooked. He likes things that are just cooked! So this worked out perfectly! The top of the picture is the first batch, the bottom of the picture is the second batch. Woohoo! There were more in the second batch so more for me!
