🌿 HEAT-LOVING LEAFY GREENS — DAY 4
🌱 CHAYA / TREE SPINACH
WHAT IF YOUR SUMMER GREENS GREW LIKE A PERENNIAL SHRUB?
Chaya — *Cnidoscolus aconitifolius* — is a perfect fit for our HEAT-LOVING LEAFY GREENS series.
Instead of forcing cool-season vegetables through Florida’s hottest months, we can grow leafy foods adapted to heat, humidity and long growing seasons.
☀️ LOVES THE HEAT
🌧️ HANDLES HUMIDITY
🌿 REGROWS QUICKLY
✂️ SUPPORTS REPEATED HARVESTS
Chaya can grow as a productive perennial shrub, edible hedge, food forest layer or tropical landscape plant.
At GreenDreams, we grow THREE selections:
🌿 MAPLE LEAF / CHAYAMANSA
Our broad-leaved, more standard Chaya selection.
🌿 MARABOU CHAYA
A Florida-circulated selection with intermediate leaf shape and especially tender cooked greens.
🌿 DEEP LOBED / ESTRELLA CHAYA
Dramatically cut foliage with strong ornamental appeal and pollinator interest when flowering.

🔥 IMPORTANT:
CHAYA IS NOT A RAW SALAD GREEN.
The leaves contain cyanogenic compounds and MUST BE THOROUGHLY COOKED before eating.
Properly prepared, Chaya is a versatile cooked green for eggs, beans, rice, soups, stews and more.
