AAmp is an interdisciplinary design studio positioned at the intersection of architecture & media. We focus on design at multiple scales to create unique experiences. These range from brand identity, to residential, commercial & cultural spaces. We pride ourselves on an innovative and accessible approach to design: from initial concept to realization, we work closely with our clients to develop creative solutions tailored to their needs. In short, we believe design is a cultural experience that is beautiful, democratic and fun — so, let’s do it!

A few highlights from our recent Project 2 reviews in undergraduate studio, ARC361 U of T Daniels

Titled ‘Precedent Transformation’, the project asks students to reinterpret the architectural principles of a studied precedent through a new vertical design proposal, translating ideas of form, spatial organization and tectonics into a 1:25 physical model.

Congratulations to a wonderful group of students on the thoughtful exploration and experimentation!

A simple silhouette, oversized openings, and a quiet, monochromatic palette give a familiar form new life, while stealthily introducing more housing into a rural setting …

From our AAnnotated series, a collection of notes and musings on the things we stumble upon: Periscope Architecture in Portland, ME:

From certain streets in Portland, you’ll catch sight of little buildings perched atop bigger ones – strange, almost parasitic forms that seem to have climbed up there just to peek over the rooftops. This one, a clapboard cap balancing on a brick base, looks almost like a second house that scrambled upward in search of the horizon.

These “periscope architectures” are common in coastal towns, where a few extra feet of height can mean catching a glimpse of ocean, harbor, or horizon otherwise blocked. They aren’t quite additions in the conventional sense – too small, too idiosyncratic. Instead, they feel more like lookout posts: improvised belvederes, cupolas reborn as bonus rooms, or opportunistic viewing decks grafted onto existing roofs.

They tell a story about desire – the desire for a view, for light, for connection to water and sky. From a design standpoint, they’re also about negotiation: how to add height without overwhelming, how to balance function with whimsy, how to retrofit vision into structures built without it. And in that, they embody something distinctly coastal – buildings turning into devices for looking outward, scanning the horizon, keeping an eye on what’s beyond.

We’re excited to share that has ranked AAmp on its list of the 25 Best Architecture and Design Firms in Toronto! Based on more than a decade of platform data, the ranking places the studio alongside some of the city’s most established and respected practices. At AAmp, we strive to create architecture that is thoughtful, contextual, and built to have a lasting relationship with the people and places it serves. We’re proud to have the studio recognized in this way and grateful to our team, clients, and collaborators who make our work possible. We look forward to building on this recognition as the practice continues to grow and evolve …

Hope to see you Saturday, October 24th!

There’s more to 'Jones Commons' than meets the eye.

Just off the Danforth, AAmp Studio has transformed a former 1950s neighbourhood medical clinic into a mixed-use building containing four residences and a creative office.

Throughout the project, the original structure and contemporary addition remain distinct while working together as a whole. Brightly coloured glazed brick and carefully considered materials create connections between old and new, revealing how an existing Toronto building can evolve without erasing its past.

See the transformation for yourself on October 24 during an exclusive DesignTO House Tour led by Anne-Marie Armstrong, Principal of AAmp Studio and owner of Jones Commons, and DesignTO Artistic Director Deborah Wang.

Guests will have the opportunity to explore the creative office and new principal residence while hearing the story behind the project.

Saturday, October 24, 2026
11:00am–12:30pm
Jones Avenue and Danforth Avenue, Toronto
General Admission: $100

This tour is part of DesignTO’s charitable fundraising efforts. Your participation helps support our work and programming, and a charitable tax receipt will be issued for the allowable portion of your ticket.

We're excited to see our Wychwood Park Residence featured in this month’s issue of as part of its Drawing Board series. The feature offers a look at our renovation and expansion of a 1926 heritage residence by renowned architect Eden Smith in Toronto’s historic Wychwood Park neighborhood. The project pairs careful restoration with a contemporary addition and landscape interventions, balancing the home’s architectural history with a new chapter of modern living.
We’re thrilled to see the project in print as it prepares to begin construction! ...
