White to mint green, and nothing else on this house changed.

Same roof, same garage doors, same windows, same trim profile. First photo is the garage end before we started. Second is that end of the house once we were off it. Third is the gable with the brick chimney, which is where you can read the colour honestly. Fourth is the side entry, with the door in an aqua a shade off the body. Fifth is the back.

This is also close to last call on exteriors. Coatings stop curing properly once the overnight temperatures sit below about fifty degrees, and in Rhode Island that is early November. If your house was on the list for this year, it needs to get on the schedule now.

Same front door, four days apart.

First photo: the portico and the door casing had gone flat and grey-blue, and an evergreen had grown up across the walk. Second photo is the same doorway in a teal that actually reads as a colour from the street. The planters and the cleared walk are the homeowner's own doing, not ours.

Third is the back patio, same teal on the trim and the step risers. Fourth is the side elevation, trim cut in clean against the clapboard.

The body colour on this house stayed where it was. Everything you are looking at is trim and entry work, and trim is most of what anyone actually notices from the sidewalk.

Three photos from two houses we had going last week.

First is a hallway papered end to end with one of our guys working at the far end of it. Second is a crew member heading into a sunroom with the doors open. Third is a living room mid-job, ladders up, floor covered, everything pushed to the middle and sheeted.

This is what most of a week actually looks like. The finished photo is one afternoon. The rest of it is tape, paper, ladders, and somebody's house that we have to hand back better than we found it.

Nobody books a painter for the plastic.

First two photos are two rooms in the same house before anything got coated. Furniture tented, floors papered end to end, blue tape run along every baseboard. That is most of a morning for a crew, and not one square inch of it shows up in the finished room.

Third photo is a finished bathroom in the same house, walls in a soft sage. The vanity, the stone top and the tile were all already there. The walls are ours.

The protection is not an add-on. It is the reason the finish lands clean and your things come out of it the way they went in.

Look at the first photo. Blue-grey walls, drop cloths down, the bench pulled out from under the windows.

Second photo is the same two windows a few days later in a warm cream. Same bench, same beadboard, same leaded glass in the upper sashes.

Third is the next room along, with the table and chairs back in it. Teal above the white wainscot.

Last two are the back entry, same door, before and after.

Interiors book out fast this time of year. If you want rooms finished before you have people over, this is the week to call. (401) 313-4346

Faded mint green, chalked out and peeling, to charcoal with a red door.

Paint that lets go in sheets like the top photo is usually telling you something underneath it failed first. So the work on a house in that condition is mostly scraping, sanding back to something sound, repair where the wood is gone, and priming every bare patch before a finish coat gets near it.

That is also why this is the last call of the year. Scraping and priming take days, not hours, and once the overnight temperatures drop the coating stops curing properly. A job that starts too late in October does not fail in November. It fails the spring after next, and by then everyone has forgotten who painted it.

We have roughly three weeks of usable exterior weather left in Rhode Island. If your house looks like the top photo, call now and we will tell you honestly whether it fits this year or waits until spring.

"Mario and his crew did an amazing job on the new paint job of our house. They responded very quickly and got us on the books a lot quicker than I expected."

- Nicki C.

That is not Nicki's house in the photo. It is a different one, and it makes the other half of the point.

Getting on the books quickly matters more in October than it does in June. There is a narrow window left for exterior work in Rhode Island, and a crew that cannot start for five weeks is really telling you next spring without saying it.

The house in the photo is the same building in both halves. Same windows, same roof, same garage openings. Washed, prepped and repainted.

An office, painted around the people who work in it.

First photo is how it started. Mid-blue walls covered in pale patches where every ding, anchor hole and scuff from years of desks and filing cabinets had been filled. Furniture under plastic, base trim pulled off the wall.

The rest is the same space back in service. Pale grey walls, white ceiling, new white baseboard reinstalled and painted.

To be clear about what that job actually was: we patched the walls, pulled and replaced the base trim, and repainted. The carpet, the furniture and the shelving are all the customer's and were there before we arrived.

Commercial work is a different animal from a house. Nobody can move out. The business still has to open on Monday, so the work gets staged around desks, phones and people, and the room has to be usable again at the end of each day rather than at the end of the job.

If you have a space that needs doing without closing, that is the conversation we have most. (401) 313-4346

Two photos of the same kind of joint, on the same house, a few weeks apart.

The first one is where a window meets the brick. The old caulk has cracked and pulled away from one side and there is an open gap running down to the sill. That gap is a funnel. Rain goes in, sits behind the casing, and the wood starts going soft somewhere you cannot see it.

The second is that joint rebuilt. Old caulk cut out, surfaces cleaned, fresh bead tooled in, then painted.

Nobody has ever hired us because of a caulk joint. It is a line item people skim past on an estimate. But it is the single most common reason a trim board has to be replaced instead of painted, and replacing a board costs more than caulking every window on the house.

If you want to know how your own house is doing, go look at the bottom corners of your window casings. That is where it starts.

Look at the first photo. The gable is a tired sage green, the porch ceiling is a muddy olive, and the trim band under the roof is grey with dirt.

Now look at the last one. Same brick. Same windows. Same front door, same storm door, same lantern, same iron posts. Nothing was replaced. Every bit of that change is prep, caulk and paint on the painted surfaces.

That is most of what a brick house needs. The brick takes care of itself. The gable, the soffit, the dentil band, the door surround and every window casing are the parts that weather, and they are the parts that make the house look old before it is.

Second photo is the entry before. Third is the same spot after.
