I’ve been slacking on posting here lately but that doesn’t mean we’ve been slacking at work. I’ve taken a step back and just been appreciating my free time with my wife when we have spare moments.

I’m not one to usually post on Facebook whether it’s my business page or personal page and I let it consume me more than I wanted over the last several months.

The last week has been full of work, but more full of refreshment in my private life. We enjoyed a lot of friends, welcoming them to our new home after being in it for 6 months. We enjoyed a trip to Wisconsin to watch our favorite football team. But most of all we enjoyed each other. Although I don’t think my wife enjoyed me shaving my beard off for our Halloween costume 😅

I’m back and ready to flood your feed with boring posts about junk removal and dumpster rental, random facts about environmental waste, and probably a little more controversy.

A pretty cool find today!
We are cleaning out a house in Bristol Indiana and I found a 1660 farthing from Bristol England (1/4 penny).
It’s not in super great shape but if I was 366 years old I wouldn’t be either😅

What a coincidence to find a coin from Bristol in Bristol!

We got all of our dumpsters out on rental for the weekend and are blowing this Popcicle stand!

October means one thing around here…

I had somebody tell me today:

“It must be nice to make $375 just driving around in your truck dropping off a dumpster.”

😂 I wish that’s how it worked.

So let’s break down a real $375 rental.

This particular customer is about 35 miles away — roughly 50 minutes each way.

Between dropping the dumpster off and going back to pick it up, that’s around 140 miles and over 3 hours of driving.

My diesel truck gets about 12.5 MPG.

Then let’s say the customer uses the full 2-ton allowance.

$375 rental
➖ ~$74 diesel
➖ ~$100 landfill fee
➖ ~$42 estimated truck/trailer wear & maintenance
= $159 left

And I still haven’t paid myself for my time.

Figure roughly 4 hours total between delivery, pickup, dumping, paperwork, etc. At even $35/hour, that’s another $140.

That leaves about $19 before insurance, advertising, registration, equipment payments, repairs, business overhead and taxes.

So no… I didn’t “make $375 driving around in my truck.”

I collected $375 to provide a service.

There’s a pretty big difference.

I’m not complaining — I chose this business and I enjoy what I do. But sometimes it’s interesting to show what actually happens to that money after the invoice gets paid.

Small business math hits a little different when you actually see the numbers. 😂

Quick heads-up for anyone with property near the state line:

Starting January 1, 2027, Michigan will no longer allow untreated firewood to be brought in from another state. This goes for firewood being bought, sold, or disposed of. Ridiculous I know, but rules are rules.

That means if we’re cleaning out a property in Indiana and there’s stacked firewood, we can’t simply haul it back across the line. It will need to stay in Indiana or have proper heat-treatment certification. This could affect the cost of disposal which mean it will also affect the cost of the removal.

It’s one more detail a legitimate removal company needs to know. We don’t just load everything and hope for the best—we make sure it’s handled properly.
