Great information!
𝕎𝕖 𝕗𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕪 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕒 𝕐𝕠𝕦𝕋𝕦𝕓𝕖 𝕔𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕟𝕖𝕝!
After the absolutely terrible week we had with incoming hatching egg shipments, I shared a few of the unfortunate unboxings, which led to SO many people asking how I recommend packaging eggs and how we package ours.
The thing is, I don’t have one specific method I’d recommend to everyone. There are plenty of fantastic ways to package hatching eggs, and despite what some people insist, there isn’t ONE universally correct way to do it.
So I finally put together our YouTube channel and recorded the entire process of how WE package eggs!
After almost a decade of shipping and receiving hatching eggs, here’s what we’ve settled on.
Our preferred packing materials:
* A proper SHIPPING box (not all boxes are created equal)
* Packing tape
* Large bubble wrap
* Jute string
* Packing paper
* Lots of labels
What we don’t do:
* Write on eggs (occasionally pencil)
* Use old household items as packing materials
* Reuse shipping boxes or random boxes
* Ship in shavings (the extra weight is terrible for everyone’s wallet)
Foam shippers aren’t my personal preference. Our recorded hatch rates from eggs received in foam simply haven’t been as good as those received in bubble wrap. And considering I sometimes receive over 200 hatching egg orders in a year, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to track results and figure out what works best for us.
That doesn’t mean foam is terrible! It’s convenient, especially for people with jobs, families, and a life outside their birds. We even offer it as an optional add-on, although we modify the packing to keep everything properly supported and suspended.
Anyway, our first video, HOW WE PACKAGE HATCHING EGGS, is officially up!
It’s a little longer than my usual content because I wanted to show the entire process without rushing.
And since I’m still figuring out how YouTube works, if you have a minute to show us some love over there, I’d really appreciate it. Comments, thumbs up, subscribing, whatever helps. Lmao. I’m assuming some interaction might help get our videos in front of more people.
One last thing I’m curious about. Are those of you using UPS actually seeing better hatch rates, or are your eggs just arriving sooner? I’ve personally found them harsher on eggs, and I’d love to hear what everyone else is experiencing.
