Onward has a new building toy in development! Introducing the Contemporary House Assembly Blocks, a set of 3 pieces essential to every house:

o Roof Block (Green): shelter or support

o Public Block (Blue): kitchen, dining, and living areas with lots of glass to connect with the environment.

o Private Block (Tan): bedrooms and bathrooms with large windows at each end for picturesque views.

The set features simple slot connector to allow infinite ways of assembling, with each piece designed to encourage play through discovery (and re-discovery).

There are no limits to what a house can be or look like, and the Contemporary House Assembly Blocks are a gateway to creative thinking and fun for all ages.

Aging-in-place successfully comes down to thoughtful planning and the details. For this Lakewood renovation and addition, we created a home designed for a retired couple to enjoy with their large family. Features include a kitchen that serves as a social hub for entertaining, a bathroom designed as a wet room with a roll-in shower, a mudroom with a deep bench for safe changing, and covered deck that expands their living space while keeping an eye on grandchildren playing in the backyard.

Situated on a primary traffic corridor in need of revitalization, this project transforms a long-abandoned commercial building into a welcoming community asset. The design utilizes a warm material palette to invite patrons in and breathe new life into the streetscape.

Originally conceived for an industrial, Buckeye-themed rental network, this cabin prototype utilizes a hybrid panelized and modular system. Its courtyard layout creates a private sanctuary for social spaces—even on multi-unit sites—while intentionally directing all views toward the landscape. By blending panel and module elements, the design minimizes on-site construction, allowing for a light, thoughtful footprint within nature.

Even small shopping plazas need some love. This local exterior improvement project breathes new life into a busy retail streetscape with a contemporary material palette.

This recently completed addition in Berea features a new first floor owner’s suite and laundry, which along with its attached two-car garage enables seamless age-in-place living. The layout naturally forms an intimate patio, offering a private retreat on this urban lot.

Design happens at every scale. 📐

This week’s focus: Prototyping modular components that prioritize play. From buildings to furniture, we’re obsessed with creating environments that bring a little more joy to the everyday.

King's Church officially moved into their new Lakewood home this weekend! The new entry and worship areas are bright and welcoming, while the classrooms capture natural light while maintaining privacy. It was a pleasure working with the King’s staff and the TCGPrete construction team to bring the design to life.
