12 years ago, during deer hunting season, Greg decided to bring home a little Lab puppy. There was just one small detail... he hadn't discussed it with me first. 😂
And then, as if that wasn't enough, he left for deer hunting, leaving me home with this little wiggle butt.
Well, what was I supposed to do? I fell in love with him, of course. ❤️
That little wiggle butt was Scout, and over the next 12 years, he filled our home with more love, laughter, mischief, and memories than we ever could have imagined.
Scout was the dog who always had to lie on the bathroom floor while you showered. The one who barked excessively every time someone came home, as if we'd been gone for years. The one who somehow knew when you weren't feeling well and would curl up beside you.
He was a giant lap dog who never quite understood just how big he was.
And he certainly wasn't an angel. 😂
If there was something on the counter he wasn't supposed to have, he'd find a way to get it. Raspberries and tomatoes growing in the backyard? Apparently, someone planted those just for him.
And then there was Greg. Scout slept beside him every single night, and heaven forbid I asked him to move. I'd get a grumble letting me know exactly how he felt about that!
He was stubborn, mischievous, loving, and full of personality. And somehow, all those little things that could drive you crazy became the very things that made him so special.
Last Sunday, we said goodbye to our sweet Scout.
Our home and workshop will be a little quieter now. We won't hear that familiar bark when we walk through the door, see a big furry shadow waiting outside the shower, or hear a grumble from the bed when someone asks to move.
It's funny how the smallest, most ordinary moments become the ones that mean so much when they're gone.
Scout reminded us that home isn't just a place. It's the lives we share, the love we give, and the memories we make along the way. Sometimes those memories come with muddy paws, stolen tomatoes, and a whole lot of dog hair.
12 years ago, one little puppy unexpectedly became part of our family. And he found a place in our hearts that will always belong to him.
I know 12 years sounds like a long time, but when you've loved a dog for that many years, it never feels like nearly enough. ❤️
Rest easy, Scout. You were loved beyond words. ❤️🐾
