A lot of good low-voltage work gets lost on the last day of a job. The walls are closed, the trades are gone, and months later nobody can say where a cable runs or who has the camera login.
We put together a handoff checklist for builders and GCs so that doesn't happen on your projects. Two items from it:
• Match the cable map and labels to what was actually installed, not what was proposed. Label both ends of every run with the same room names used on the map.
• Put the alarm, camera, doorbell, smart home and network accounts in the homeowner's name, under their email. The homeowner owns the logins, not the installer and not the builder.
The photo is a pre-wire from one of our River Forest jobs, before drywall. That's the moment to check the cable map against what's actually in the walls.
The full checklist also covers device lists, the alarm zone list, Wi-Fi details, the homeowner walkthrough and close-out contacts. Agree on it early, write it into the scope and deliver it before the final walkthrough.
