The White Madeira is a premium, self-fertile fig variety originating from Portugal.

• It produces medium-sized, light-skinned fruit with a dense, amber-red pulp known for an intensely sweet, berry-like flavor.

• Featuring a moderately closed eye to resist pests, this late-season producer thrives in USDA zones 7–10. It requires full sun, well-draining soil, and performs effectively in both containers and the ground, reaching heights of 5 to 15 feet.

We harvested the first fruit on a tree started from cuttings this year.

Yesterday we attended the fig meet in Walden NY. Had the pleasure to meet other fellow figster, present our sand method and of course picked up two beauties to add to our collection Kadota and Alma.

And so it begins.
As we harvest our last crop of figs, winter is at our door.
Last night we had our first hard frost here in Edison NJ. Lots of fig leaves have turned to yellow and more have fallen, indicating the end of another season.
And so it begins we prepare for the winter. Clean up the garage from all the equipment used in the summer to make airlayers and up potting trees. Soon all our potted tress will be pruned and cuttings will be sorted and prepared for our New Jersey Fig Cutting Meet.
We'll make sure we have all the necessary components to winterize our in ground trees.
And for the most exiting tasks we prepare to propagate new trees for next year New Jersey Fig Meet.

My young trees are tucked away inside my garage under grow lights I will bring them to the fig meet in Walden NY next Saturday for a final season sale. My potted summer cutting are now nice and toasty in my boiler room.
