Hello AIA Dayton!

My name is Peter Witt, and I am a junior student at Miami University. I am an active member of AIAS here, one of the team members spearheading our new chapter of Freedom By Design, and a proud citizen of Dayton, Ohio! My mom is a Career Advisor for the Engineering Department at UD, and she is in the loop about all the great things that Dayton is doing to grow as a city and community, and I can't get enough of it! As such, I am always a proponent of our collaboration and cooperation with you guys at AIA Dayton, and I appreciate all you have done for our chapter in the past with funding and the like. We look forward to working with your high school students soon, and to maintaining a relationship with your chapter.

Now, I have a quick favor to ask. A few peers of mine and I are interested in visiting an ongoing construction site, as this task is one of our assignments for Materials class due this September the 11th. I was hoping that you guys might be able to arrange for us to visit, over the long weekend, any sort of ongoing construction site from one of your firms in Dayton. If you would be willing to do us such a favor, you can contact me in a direct message on Facebook, email me at [email protected], or call me at 937-631-1551. Thank you so much, and I look forward to hearing back!

SB 49, AIA Ohio's Payment Assurance Legislation, was officially signed into law today in Governor DeWine's office at the Ohio Statehouse. First introduced as SB136 in 2019, the bill took two legislative sessions and a lot of work by AIA Ohio's Payment Assurance Committee together with lobbyist, Luther Liggett Jr., to make it to law.

AIA Ohio thanks Senators Jay Hottinger and Vernon Sykes for jointly sponsoring the bill. We are also thankful to our partners in promoting the importance of this issue, the Ohio Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Ohio, and the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio.

In the near future, AIA Ohio will be producing materials to instruct design professionals how to use this law to ensure payment for services provided.
