Thirty years of custom homes. Each with a story of its own.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re revisiting some of the homes that have helped define our design legacy, starting with The Dusk Home, designed for Canadian singer Matt Dusk and his family.

Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House, the design pairs strong horizontal lines and natural materials with the comfort of a private retreat. Inside, a dramatic living room and welcoming kitchen make room for quiet family time and lively gatherings alike.

Completed in 2020, this home reflects an approach that has guided us for three decades: understanding the people who will live there, and shaping the design around them.

The Covered Porch

At the rear of The Gable House, the architecture opens toward the backyard through generous glazing and a full-width covered porch. The design creates a sheltered extension of the interior, with space for outdoor dining and lounging overlooking the pool.

Substantial stone columns and clean-lined posts frame the porch, while its strong horizontal roofline balances the taller gabled and hipped forms above. Living space over the porch makes efficient use of the home’s footprint, integrating the outdoor gathering area into the overall architecture.

The stone, stucco and dark detailing carry through from the front façade, giving the home a consistent character from every perspective. Large windows and glazed doors maintain a visual connection between the interior and the outdoor living spaces.

The result is a backyard elevation that brings architectural continuity and everyday function together, creating a comfortable setting for gathering, relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

The Gable House

This transitional home brings together traditional architectural forms and clean, contemporary detailing. Steeply pitched gables rise against the broad backdrop of the main roof, creating a distinctive silhouette with a rhythm that carries across the façade.

Varying projections and a recessed second floor give the composition depth, while the covered front entry offers a welcoming sense of scale between the taller forms. Textured stone defines the central and garage gables, continuing along the base of the stucco-clad gable to visually connect the different elements.

Dark window frames and metal roof accents add crisp definition to the warm exterior palette. A prominent boxed-out window forms a vertical focal point within the central stone gable, bringing a contemporary detail to its traditional shape.

Together, these elements reflect our approach to transitional architecture: familiar forms thoughtfully proportioned and refined through purposeful detailing.

The Gable House

Classic form. Modern expression.

Familiar forms set the foundation: steep gables, warm stone and a welcoming covered entry. Clean detailing and expansive windows bring a contemporary feel, giving the home a character that carries from its distinctive front façade to its generous backyard porch.

The same balance of classic form and modern detailing carries throughout the exterior.

Buildproof™

A rendering can show you what a home could be. Buildproof™ shows you what a designer has successfully brought to life.

Great design must do more than inspire. It must navigate zoning, engineering, approvals, budgets and construction—without losing the vision along the way.

After 30 years and more than 2,200 custom homes, our built work is the measure of our experience.

Real homes. Real sites. Real constraints. Built results.

Don’t just look at the rendering. Look for the Buildproof™.

2,200+ Custom Homes Designed.

For 30 years, we’ve watched ideas that began on our drawing boards become real homes for real families. Each project has had to navigate the realities of zoning, approvals, engineering, technical coordination and construction before becoming the finished architecture you see today.

That depth of built experience informs every new home we design.

Buildproof™ can be found throughout our portfolio, but our project map tells the story particularly well. It highlights DSD homes currently in design (yellow pins), under construction (green pins) and completed (red pins).

Designing a custom home requires you to place enormous trust in your architectural team. You’re not simply hiring someone to create an image you love. You’re trusting them to guide that vision through the realities of approvals, technical coordination and construction without losing the character and intent that made the design special in the first place.

BEYOND THE RENDERING

Beautiful ideas are only the beginning.

A rendering can show you what a home could become. But when choosing a home designer, look beyond the rendering—and consider what they have successfully brought to life.

Every completed home reflects hundreds of decisions made along the journey from first concept to construction—responding to zoning, structure, mechanical systems, materials, approvals, detailing and coordination.

The true measure of a design is whether its original character and intent remain intact throughout that journey.

We call that Buildproof™: evidence that a designer’s ideas have successfully made the journey from concept to construction.

From Rendering to Reality.

This completed renovation in Etobicoke transforms the original raised bungalow into a distinctive two-storey home, reworking its scale, roofline and architectural character while responding to the existing structure and sloping site.

As part of the renovation, the garage remains integrated into the lower level. This placement allows more of the ground floor to be dedicated to living space, creating greater flexibility for larger, more open principal rooms. It also requires careful consideration of the journey from the garage to everyday functional spaces such as the mudroom, pantry and kitchen.

For a new build, a lower-level garage would not typically be the first approach unless the natural grading of the property supported it. Here, retaining the existing garage location made thoughtful use of the home’s original configuration and the slope of the site, while allowing the architecture above to take on an entirely renewed presence.

Great design is about more than what you see.

Behind every completed custom home are countless decisions, detailed drawings, technical considerations and layers of coordination—all working together to protect the original vision.

The Modern Castle is a reflection of that process. From its dramatic street presence and drawbridge-inspired entry to its light-filled interiors, strong indoor-outdoor connection and Net Zero performance, every element was thoughtfully considered.

Because a successful custom home isn’t created through aesthetics alone. It takes careful planning, technical precision and close collaboration to design a home that is beautiful, functional and buildable.
